This is the first year I'm participating in Vegan MoFo; I'm excited and a little bit nervous. What's Vegan MoFo, you ask? It's a vegan blogger spin on NaNoWriMo; for one month vegan bloggers write as much as they can and as often as they can about vegan food! There have been some pretty amazing themes in past years, from vegan street food to True Blood recipes.
My theme for 2013 is Old New World. I'll be focusing on pre-colonial or pre-contact recipes in the Americas. They're foodways that I'm not really familiar with so I'm excited to learn a bunch and do some experimenting in the kitchen. Since MoFo is in September this year instead of October I'll even be able to fit in some squash blossoms in. I've picked up various corn flours and I'm making sure to stock the pantry with heirloom beans. As an added boon for a cookbook hound like me, thanks to the secondhand market I've grabbed a few source books - some, literally, for a single penny. They're positively bristling with post-it notes where I've marked recipes to try. I'm excited and nervous, but mostly excited to say: Welcome to my MoFo!
